Job Overview
The Welder 1 role at HD Trailer Solutions is responsible for fabricating and welding components for our equipment trailers, deckover trailers, forklift trailers, scissor lift trailers, and custom variations. While this position includes tacking, welding, and assisting other welders, a key responsibility is operating our CNC plasma table to cut precision parts for production. The role also requires the ability to use — or learn to use — other fabrication equipment such as cutting torches and various welding tools.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate a CNC plasma table to cut parts according to specifications
- Use or learn to use other fabrication equipment such as cutting torches and welding fabrication tools
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine appropriate welding equipment, settings, and methods based on requirements
- Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts to securely position components for welding.
- Operate angle grinders and other power tools to prepare parts for welding
- Align components using fixtures, tape measures, levels, speed squares, and clamps
- Weld components in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead) using manual welding equipment
- Prepare trailers and components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to identify flaws and ensure quality standards
- Assist other welders to ensure projects are completed efficiently
- Maintain a clean work environment and follow company Safety Standards and Quality Standards.
- Ability to consistently lift over 50 lbs and work in awkward positions while bending, stooping, kneeling, or standing for up to 10 hours
- Other duties as assigned to meet production needs
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Minimum of 2 years welding or fabrication experience required
- Must possess the skill set to support a safe working environment
- Must be able to pass horizontal, vertical, and overhead weld tests
- Must be able to read a tape measure accurately down to 1/16th of an inch
- Experience operating a CNC plasma cutter highly preferred
- Ability to use or learn the proper use of fabrication equipment such as plasma cutter, cutting torch, and other welding fabrication tools
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding specifications, and procedures
- Skilled in using welding measuring devices (squares, levels, tape measures)
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for fabrication calculations
- Ability to use fabrication support equipment (turntables, cranes, hoists, lift tables, carts)
- Forklift operation experience preferred, but not required
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and be subject to random drug testing
- Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
